Today I am sharing a journal page I have made a while back on the theme "what is home?"
I've moved from Amsterdam to Leiden now I think 12 years ago and it took me a while to call this city my home, but I do love it here now. I tried to convey my feelings for this city in this art journal spread. It is going to be a picture heavy post of details of this spread, so you'll see more after the cut.
So I only took one picture of the process and the rest I forgot because I was so engrossed into making this page. I still need to develop a routine into filming my pages, but well with this it's not the case.
I started with a collage layer of train tickets to and from Leiden and a tourist map in the middle of the right page. I covered the page with a light layer of gold gesso from the Crafter's Workshop. The cityscape is a napkin which I adhered with gel medium and when that dried I took the Alphabet Spagetti stencil from DecoArts Media and stenciled through with a sponge Deco Arts Traditions paints Phtalo Green light and Red Violet. I kept the name and center of the city visible.
And then I kept adding layers of paint and texture until I was satisfied with the page. The cityscape is from Stampotique Originals as well as the hearts stamped throughout the page. I used a grungy diamond shape stencil, liquitex molding paste and pressed Tim Holtz refection numbers in there.
There is some delicious texture all over this page. in the end I sprayed some perfect pearls Kiwi over the texture and it has a lovely shine to it!
I formed the words HOME with the alphabet spagetti stencil and black paint, then highlighted it with white and gold. Drew circles and added shades around the word Leiden as well. The hearts were stamped on separate papers and adhered to the page.
I am so pleased how this spread turned out and now have a nice tribute to HOME in my art journal.
