Today I wanted to share a little bit what happens behind the scenes at my creative station. Usually when I create something the left over scraps bits, trims and pieces gets piled up to the left hand side. And when it gets a little out of control (like migrating to the middle of the desk) I take my Junk Mail Art Journal and have what I like to call a "Left-Over Art Collage clean up session" and take my jar of Modge Podge, a brush and use my scraps to create some fun collage style journal pages. And yes, mostly they are supervised by my kitty Meesha :)
Usually I just continue to fill pages until I feel like the left over pile is manageable again, like so. And when I'm done with a session like this, I'm always glad that I just didn't chuck all the scraps into the bin like I am always tempted to do when that mess just gets out of control. It's a peaceful and meditative process and oh yeah, I totally get distracted by looking at the utter adorableness sleeping in that basket :)
Close up of a spread from this session. Just randomly slapped together pages, but I do try to look for composition and color. Not sure if they are "done" I might just come back to a page, gesso all over it and completely transform the look of it. I have dome that with a few which I will share at a later time.
What do you do with your left over scraps? Bin them right away or are you also hoarding them to use later? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.
Sharing this post with the fellow deskers at Julia's WOYWW454 - glad to be playing along again, hope you all are doing well and will say hi to you all shortly :)
Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful day!

Hi Cheetarah, what a beautiful pussy cat! I'm another hoarder, lol. I think it's what most of us crafters tend to do, no matter what it is. :) Have a lovely week, Hugs, Shaz #15 XxX
ReplyDeleteOh how lovely....it’s just like making a quilt with papers. Love the results.

This is so lovely with the kitty in her basket! AMAZING!
ReplyDeleteWow, what a great idea to avoid 'bit build up'. I must admit that I'm a hoarder, but I do go to the bit box for quick tags fairly frequently. Love your collage journal pages. Have a good week. Sarah #14
ReplyDeleteLove the pic of the snuggled up kitty!! I think using up the scraps like that is a great idea, it makes for great spontaneous art!

gorgeous pages! I agree that it is a great way to use up scraps. Helen #1
ReplyDeleteDepending on size/ mood :D
ReplyDelete... I pile them, file them, bin them or use them straight away on another project.. which is what I was doing yesterday.. stamping images on usable scraps for new cards. I don't journal scrap etc.. I just make cards. Shaz in Oz.x 16
What a question, what do I do with my scraps? I spend hours trying to sort them in some kind of order, but often it become overwhelming, and they are just put in a box for another day, your solution seems something I might try when we get into our own place.
ReplyDeletePleased to see everything is being supervised by Meesha, she seems to be working very hard at it.
Thanks for visiting my desk and the nice comments.

Hi Cheetarah, I tend to save the left over scraps. I have a large plastic concertina file that I have colour coded. When I need small pieces I look in there first. I never thought of using them in a collage ... but something to consider. The chair from Ikea is very comfy! Have a lovely week Heather xx #13
ReplyDeleteLove your idea with the scraps - am going to embrace that one. Great journal page.
ReplyDeleteYour kitty looks very comfortable all curled up - what a great companion she must be.
Hugs, Neet 2 xx
What a great idea. I usually dump all my scraps in a basket, as a result you could say over time I am a basket case!. It takes me forever if I try to organize them into some sort of system and I resent spending time organizing the bits as I am not an A, B or C type personality more like X, or Y, or Z. At this end of the alphabet I am well beyond the sytem of types organized people set up!

I never throw away scraps, I have boxes filled with them I am afraid. love your pages and how cute is your kitty. Have a lovely week, vicky
ReplyDeleteHi there. Now there's an idea for all the little scraps... mine get put into a box, then I dig into it on various occasions.
ReplyDeleteTake care. God bless.

A great idea for the scraps. I keep mine- I cannot throw away - you never know when you might need something :-) I just adore your kitty curled up there like that. Thanks for popping by. Anne x #21
ReplyDeleteOh great idea Gal, and beautifully done. Am pretty sure that I couldn’t make art out of my scraps, they don’t even look as nice as yours! Meesha...oh my heart, So LOVE how she patiently sits or sleeps in the basket while you work!
ReplyDeleteGosh what a desk - I started off with one scrap box and now have lost count, throw nothing away. I see the kitty has an empty box to sleep in, like mine she always finds somewhere to curl up on my desk. Ani#17
ReplyDeleteWhat a brilliant idea rather than chucking all those scraps in the bin, looks really cool, I will give that a try myself. Misha looks very happy there :o) Annie C #10
ReplyDeleteAwesome post and awesome photos. I do church some scraps but most times I keep mine for my junk journal as well. But mostly just add a little here and there. I love your idea and may have to try it next time. Have a great week. Dorlene #37
ReplyDeleteDue to an unexpected assignment coming in I'm way late with my visit, ohmy, it's already Wednesday again! But now I'm here, admiring your desk and the collaged pages, awesome! I always put my left over scraps in big shoe-boxes, one for 'pictures' and one for 'pieces of paper'... I use those left overs later in my journals or on ATC cards. I do love your collage-spreads so I may have to give that a try too! Have a great week! Love from Holland, Marit #19
